I tell my clients all the time how much I admire what they are doing and the risks they are willing to take. They are all seeking something specific in this process and very few realize the transformation that is ahead for them. We all go through life overcoming obstacles and hurdles along the way. The key however to surpassing these hurdles and making life changes for good lies in the three C’s; commitment, consistency and courage. It takes commitment to do the necessary work, commitment to show up every day “plugged in”. If you want to make changes in your life, there unfortunately is no easy quick fix. Commit to the process and you will be pleasantly surprised with your results. Next is consistency, consistency, consistency. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, sticking to a program for two to three weeks is not going to give you the results you are looking for. You need to be consistent with your behaviors and positive attitude over the long haul. Lastly, it takes courage to really take a look at your life and be open to creating new beliefs and behaviors that have been with you a while. This courage will take you far on your qwest for a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life. Trust the process of timing and things happening in your life for a reason. This awareness alone will take you down an entirely different path than you were going.
Practice the art of commitment this month. Pick anything that sparks your interest, something you have been wanting to learn, and commit to teaching yourself a little bit every day. Commit a small amount of time each and every day until you have achieved whatever it was you wanted to learn. Maybe you have always wanted to learn to juggle. Start with a cloth and work your way up until you are comfortable juggling. This will teach you focus, determination and staying committed until the end.
Are you fairly consistent in your life? Do you have structure for exercise, meal times, and bedtimes for the children? Again, all long term goals need you to master consistency over a period of time. Focus being consistent in your efforts and you will notice results. If you are seeking a job, don’t just make calls a little here and there. Create a designated time every day and make calls and network consistently until something pays off.
Like I tell my clients all the time, I commend them for the courage it takes to embark on this journey. This courage will push you past your fears, past your comfort zones and open doors and opportunities that might not have presented themselves to you. Embrace this courage and appreciate yourself for everything you are doing. Every day this week tell yourself ” I acknowledge myself for…”.
