No one is immune to the trials and tribulations that life throws at you. Even those individuals that appear to have the perfect life will have their fair share of ups and downs. It may feel like you are the only person going through what you are going through, but I guarantee there is always someone out there that would jump at the opportunity to trade places with you. Keep in mind that everything is relative to how you are experiencing it. You may be out of work and looking for a new job, while someone else would give anything to get out of their current job situation and have a clean slate to create whatever they desire. Sometimes just taking a step back, you will see your situation in a different light. When you are feeling down in luck, give yourself permission to have a pity party. Feel sorry for yourself, cry, scream, laugh, do whatever it takes to embrace it fully and get it out of your system. Then pick yourself up, decide what your first step will be, and get in action mode. Sometimes being immersed in the situation is difficult for you to clearly see other options and opportunities. Try talking with someone that will be a good sounding board, someone that you can bounce ideas and possible hurdles off of. This week commit to feeling whatever you are feeling, and then take whatever step possible to move in a positive direction.
ACTION STEPS FOR THE WEEK:
1. Have a pity party
Whatever is currently going on in your life, whatever you are frustrated with, just embrace it fully. Get mad. Take a kickboxing class and enjoy being physical. Go for a run. Talk with a friend. Stay home by yourself and feel whatever emotions come up. Journal them down if that feels like a good outlet. Just embrace it fully, for if you ignore it or brush it under the rug, it will never fully go away.
2. What steps need to be taken
Now that you’ve had your pity party, what is the next step? Do you need to formulate a plan? Do you need to tap into resources that will help you move forward? Any action at all, even very minor steps, is better than nothing. Action creates action. Just doing something will get you closer to your goal. Commit this week to doing something that you’ve been holding off on.
3. Celebrate your growth
Now that you’ve had a pity party and created some action, celebrate it! You need to acknowledge what you have done, feel good that you tapped into strength you might not have felt existed before. Just celebrate the steps you take to move forward. Not only will it feel good, but it will boost your confidence in the process.
